What Splitsetter is, and what we expect of each other.

Last updated 15 September 2026

The short version. Splitsetter is a free app for keeping track of who paid for what and who owes whom. It records what you tell it; it does not move money. Be honest with the people in your groups, keep your device to yourself, and use it for shared expenses rather than for bothering people. You can leave, and take your account with you, whenever you like.

What Splitsetter is

Splitsetter is an app for splitting shared expenses: a trip, a flat, a dinner. You record what was paid and by whom, the app keeps a running balance for the group, and when it is time to settle, it works out the fewest payments that clear everyone's debts.

It is a ledger, not a bank. Splitsetter never holds, moves, or requests money. Settling up happens between you and your friends, by whatever means you choose, and the app only records that it happened.

Splitsetter is provided by Ornion OÜ (registry code 14129140), a company registered in Estonia. You can reach us at support@splitsetter.com.

Agreeing to these terms

By using Splitsetter you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy, which explains what we do with your data. If you do not agree with them, do not use the app. If you use Splitsetter for an organisation, you confirm that you may bind it to these terms.

Your account and your device

Splitsetter works without an account: the app creates an identity on your device the first time it runs, and everything you record is tied to it. That identity lives only on that device. If the device is lost, wiped, or the app's data is cleared before you have linked an email address, we have no way to give the identity back to you, and any group that nobody else was a member of is gone with it.

Linking an email address, or signing in with Apple or Google, turns the device identity into an account you can use on more than one device and recover on a new one. Keep the devices that are signed in to yourself; anyone who can unlock one of them can act as you in your groups. If you lose one, deleting your account from another device signs it out; write to us if you would rather we revoke only that device.

You are responsible for what happens under your identity, on every device it is signed in on.

What we expect of you

Record expenses truthfully. Everyone in a group sees the same ledger and relies on it; an invented or inflated expense misleads real people about real money. What you record about others, including people you add who have not joined, must be accurate and added for the purpose of sharing a bill with them.

Do not use Splitsetter to harass anyone, to send invitations to people who have not asked for them, to break the law, or to probe, overload, or interfere with the service. Do not try to read another group's data or to pass yourself off as someone else.

Your content

What you record in Splitsetter stays yours: the expenses, the names, the descriptions, the photos. You give us the permission needed to store it, back it up, and show it to the members of your groups, and that permission ends when the content is deleted and the last backup of it has expired.

A group's ledger belongs to its members together. Each member can see all of it, and deleting your account does not delete it for the others.

Upload only photos you have the right to use, and nothing unlawful, hateful, or aimed at a person. Anyone can report such content to support@splitsetter.com. If we remove something, we tell the person who added it what was removed and why, unless the law prevents it.

Splitsetter itself, its name, its design, and its code are ours. These terms give you the right to use the app, not to copy or resell it.

A ledger, not a guarantee

Splitsetter is provided as is. We work to keep it available and your data intact, we back the database up every night, and the app keeps a full copy of your data on your device so an outage does not take your records away. Even so, we cannot promise that the service will never be interrupted, that sync will never be delayed, or that a defect will never lose a record.

The balances the app shows are arithmetic on what was recorded. They are only as good as the entries, and they are not financial, tax, or legal advice. Check anything that matters before you act on it, and do not make Splitsetter the only record of a debt you cannot afford to lose.

What we are liable for

Splitsetter is free, and our liability is scaled to that. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses, lost data, or losses arising from a dispute between the members of a group, and our total liability to you for anything connected with the service is limited to one hundred euros.

The limit never applies to harm to life or health, or to damage we cause deliberately or through gross negligence, and nothing in these terms takes away rights you have as a consumer under the law of the country you live in.

Leaving

You can stop at any time. Deleting your account from your profile removes your personal data from our server and anonymises your past activity for your group members, as the privacy policy describes. Deleting the app without deleting the account leaves the account on the server for you to come back to.

We can suspend or close an account that is used to break these terms or the law, and we will tell you why unless the law prevents it. The data you recorded remains available to your groups' other members either way.

Changes to these terms

We may change these terms. A change that matters is announced at least 30 days ahead, in the app or by email to the address you linked, so you can stop using the service before it takes effect. A change never applies retroactively. Minor edits, such as clarifications and typo fixes, may take effect when published.

We may also change or discontinue the service itself. If we ever shut Splitsetter down, we will give you at least 30 days' notice and a way to export your data first.

Governing law

Estonian law governs these terms, and disputes go to the courts of Estonia. If you use Splitsetter as a consumer, this does not displace the protections of the country you live in: you may also bring a claim at home, or take a dispute to the Estonian Consumer Disputes Committee first.
